Why Say YES to New Technology? – Presentation for my MCDM class COM546
Posted by xiaoqiye on February 21, 2009
GOAL:
Introduce my class mates the well used TAM (Techonolgy Acceptance Model)
And use this TAM in our daily life
Strategy:
Before intro the term TAM, ask audience questions that related to their daily life. What feature do you really want on your cell phone? Why? This is an easy question for everyone, so i expect to get lots of cool feature ideas and good reasons.
With this ideas and reasons, i summarize them into the TAM terminology: PU, PEOU and Intenion of Usage and together we will make a theory.
This is a process of using this theory from the opposite direction: intent to use and why. This direction encouraging the natuwhy-say-yesral thinking flow to discover the theory.
Then i will reveal the TAM to my audience. They will feel really good that they are the person that already apply the theory in life.
Then i will reveal what this study is done to extend the TAM.
In the end of the presentation, i will encourage my audience, how to use this theory and learning from the study to apply to our daily life.

I really enjoyed your presentation and the way you incorporate our own experiences with the cell phone with the topic. You also gave me an idea that I can incorporate as part of the future for my project. I think that the mobile tv technology will work in countries that commute, but in cultures like the US, I don’t think it will work as they don’t like (or practice )to commute. In my country, I think it will work, commute is part of the the culture in Mexico as well as television (especially soaps). I can picture people watching their favorite soap in their cell phone!

As another discussion leader, I obviously did not have the opportunity to take part in your presentation, which I am sure was great!
I do find it interesting that most discussion leaders focused on mobile TV and the technology acceptance model. I went after a completely different subject, focusing more or less on content sharing (be it mobile or in more traditional places) and web culture! But, this is telling; the future is on mobile devices, and companies will be smart to focus on expanding the capabilities of mobile devices. But, yes, the question remains – will everyone sign up or not? I think the answer is generally ‘yes’, because it (hopefully) constitutes subscribers feeling like they are gaining greater control over (and functionality with) their content and their lives. We shall see!

Nice work!

I wish I had seen your presentation. You set up your structure nicely to engage the audience. I’m very much a non-user of mobile technology, but would have been interested in hearing the discussion.
