WEEK 3
After i read the Podcasting book chapter2, i have a chance to check out few of the podcasting sites.They are interesting and popular for different reasons: rich and interesting contents; marketing reasons; etc. While like everything else, we also see many Podcasting are fading.
How to make your pod cast stay on top and popular, few key points:
First, plan ahead. like everything else, your podcasting will fade one day. So set your expectation, you will only aim for certain time frame of prospering: certain weeks, certain seasons or certain years, put all your effort for this time frame to success. After that, based on the feedbacks to decide to continue, upgrade or stop. A good planning will help half of success. Agile projectment will apply here. If possible, write down detail project timeline, schedule, content script etc. The more detail the better for the crew to stay on the same page and clarify their roles in the Podcasting producing process.
Secondly, clearify your audiance. Who is your audience is a very important to the success of Podcasting. Do certain user research understand their comfort schedule, life style, interesting points, etc. will make your content focus right on the right audiance. Most of the time we hear people comment on Podcasting’s content as the fact they like it or not. Quality, sounding, polishing, etc technical details can help the Podcasting easier to be accepted but it is the content which really keep the audiance. Time and cost spend on understand your customers are the most effective investment.
Another research is necessary is to find if someone else is doing what you are doing. If so, they are your compatitors
You don’t want to duplicate the effort to make something already existing. But you can reasearch the existing Podcasting to help you understand why they are popular or less popular. The compatitors research can also help you understand your customers better, avoid making same mistakes, and find your way to be succeed.
Thirdly, marketing your Podcasting. Many times when we find a Podcasting by chance, we are surprised to know it is existing. Due to Podcasting often to be free to user, it is natural for producers would consider they are lowcost projects and ignore the marketing perspective.
Lastly, Agile. As Podcasting is targeting to the quick change internet market, it is good to have certain level of flexibility. A small surprise once a while in a serious of Podcasting will have a special effect. This surprise can be a market promotion; can be a vacation for Podcasting content; can be a surprise event going on in town to reflect the season and connection to audience’s real life.
With well plan ahead, i will see more and more successful Podcastings on the internet.
